Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see colours when you hear music? Actually see the calendar year in front and behind you, or taste unrelated flavours when you hear different words?
Well, so have we and, over the last three weeks, The Whisky Taster crew have been learning all about the people who can do this, synaesthetes like Sam Barnett's character Barney. Synaesthesia is an amazing condition and just one of the exciting elements of the play we've had the pleasure of researching.
Our first week was spent talking to James Wannerton, President of the UK Synaesthesia Association, tasting whisky with Darren Rook at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and acting as the client in a replica pitch presented by Guy Chapman and his team at Target Live. It was enlightening, not to mention fun and over the festive period, in between 'hilarious' cracker jokes and some expert gift-wrapping, this research really helped us mould the play into shape.
The next two weeks will see the play really come together and you?re in for a real treat. I mean, how many other theatres out there know for a fact that they taste of potato. 'Crunchy, burnt potato. Like you get when you put mashed potato under the Grill?'
Only the Bush.
