Kamila Shamsie

The Letter in response to Philemon

Kamila Shamsie grew up in Karachi and now lives in London. She wrote her first novel, In the City by the Sea while studying Creative Writing at the University of Massachusetts. Her other novels are Salt and Saffron, Kartography, Broken Verses and Burnt Shadows, which was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction and has been translated into 21 languages. In 1999 she received the Prime Minister’s Award for Literature in Pakistan, and in 2000 she was named one of Orange’s 21 Writers of the 21st Century. She is a regular reviewer and columnist, and has been a judge for several literary awards, including the Guardian First Book Award.
