Community Associate Companies at the Bush Theatre is an annual programme which invites two local organisations to become associate companies of the theatre. This enables the groups to form a long-term, collaborative, creative relationship with the Bush whilst enjoying the same resource and status as any other theatre company or artist.
We are looking for two lead artists – open to both individuals and companies – to work with our community associate companies over nine months. For the first six months, the artist will curate monthly events for the groups where they will explore different artistic styles, art-forms and ideas. These events can take a variety of different forms – from workshops, showcases, talks, dinners, and everything in between. Over the first six months we hope that the artists and the groups will build a relationship and get the opportunity to explore in depth the creative interests of the group. The artists will then work more intensively with the groups over three months to lead a centrepiece creative project with the groups. This can take any art form but should have a public outcome in our theatre building. We want to hear from artists who are excited and inspired by our local community and who will enter this project with a spirit of openness, curiosity and play. They will need to respond creatively to the needs and interests of the groups, working with them to empower and enable them to express their ideas creatively.
May 2019 – June 2019: Shortlisted artists create a proposal of how they would design the creative programme before meeting with Associate companies who will choose their lead artist.
July 2019 – Dec 2019: Lead artist curates 6 monthly events (workshops/talks/visits/performances).
Jan 2020 – March 2020: Lead Artist, Associate Company and the Bush prepare centrepiece project.
April 2020 – May 2020: Associate Company works with the Bush to select a new company.
