The Bush Theatre is offering a talented, emerging director the opportunity to join their artistic team on a 6 month placement. The Bush Theatre would like to expand their artistic team with an enthusiastic and organised Resident Director.
The Resident Director will support the artistic, literary and community teams, while gaining experience assisting on shows and shadowing heads of departments. The Resident Director will have the opportunity to sharpen their dramaturgical skills, pull their directing vision into focus and will be part of the programming team. They will learn how a top London producing theatre works, being part of the day to day running and operation of the Bush Theatre.
The Bush Theatre welcomes applications from individuals based outside of London but, due to the nature of the bursary placement, we require presence in London for the duration of the position, and applicants should be aware of this.

In this role you will:
- Support the Literary Manager, Associate and Artistic Director in nurturing new plays and ideas for research and development and potential programming.
- Support the Literary department with reading scripts, providing constructive feedback and preparing notes for writers, watching new productions/tours that may be suitable as visiting productions and report programming opportunities to the artistic team.
- Work alongside the Community Producer to develop and deliver workshops for our youth and community work.
- Assist in-house and external directors on shows produced by the Bush Theatre.
