The face of Britain is changing radically, rapidly and radiantly.
Project 2036 is a programme that offers three Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic and Refugee (BAMER) designers a £7,500 bursary each year.
Census data suggests that by 2036 half of all young people in London will be of dual heritage. We see that change on our streets. We want to see that change on stages and behind the scenes across our city. We fear as an industry we are reacting much too slowly, and in some cases hardly at all. It’s crucial that we create opportunities for a rich diversity of artists to make work for our main stages and so redefine the canon of British theatre.
Working collaboratively with established professionals, each year will see three designers – one Set Designer, one Sound Designer and one Lighting Designer – work as an assistant for our main stage productions, lead on designing our inaugural First Look Festival and develop their design voices.
