Exploring the experiences of Muslim women curators and space makers in the modern art and literature world.

The first exhibition of the Female Muslim Creatives took place between the 15th & 19th August 2017 and displayed the works of 11 artists centred around the themes of sexuality and sisterhood.

Female Muslim Creatives (FMC) are hosting a panel to explore the experiences of muslim women curators and creatives in the modern art world.

Shaheen Kasmani
Shaheen Kasmani is an artist, curator and teacher. She specialises in Islamic art, heritage, history and reclaiming narratives. Recent projects include The Past is Now at Birmingham museum and Decolonise Not Diversify festival, and trying not to drink too much coffee.

Aliyah Hasinah

Aliyah Hasinah is a curator, writer, producer and aspiring historian/filmmaker. Her most recent projects include ‘The Past Is Now’ exhibition at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Apples and Snakes Poetic Theatre Makers Programme, SBTV Custard Factory Pop up, TEDxBrum 2017 and more. Aliyah focuses her work on decolonial thought in practice and developing decolonial curatorial practice. Aliyah is currently Midlands Producer for Apples and Snakes.

Salma Ibrahim

Salma Ibrahim is the founder and producer of Literary Natives, an organisation that supports writers of colour by sharing opportunities on their website and running events and workshops. She is also working on her first novel.
