Protest: Writing workshop – a portrait of a protest, a portrait of you
facilitated by Isolde Chin
Alen-Buckley Script Library
About
This workshop intends to hold a space to process and share your personal lived experience in a safe and communal environment. Positing that catharsis itself is a revolutionary act, the workshop offers a space to express and discuss amongst peers.
In the aftermath of the 2025 UK Supreme Court Ruling, the world has become a scarier place for the trans and non-binary community. Already complicated concepts such as home, belonging, and acceptance, feel more elusive than ever as many of us struggle to find our place in an increasingly polarised world.
For those who wish to showcase their piece, there will be an opportunity to share their work and contribute to a larger community generated protest art.
This is a drop in event. Please feel free to arrive and leave whenever suits you during the event. A ticket to this event will also give you access to the two other Protest events in the building on the same day.
This event is part of our Protest takeover day
Following the Supreme Court ruling on the legal definitions of sex and gender, we launched an open call for trans artists as part of our Protest series. This event is one of the outcomes of that open call.
Our Protest series is an ongoing strand of work – including quick-fire commissions, collaborations and events – designed to enable artists to respond to the world in a way that is dynamic and held with care.
The goal of this writing workshop is to platform, process, and share our experiences of living in the UK following last years' Supreme Court ruling. Subjects such as transphobia, dysphoria, erasure, and mental health struggles are likely to come up during the writing and sharing process.
