Devoted and Disgruntled

Sold out

Are you a theatre artist frustrated by the skills it takes to fund and create work?
Are you an arts organisation director frustrated by the amount of time spent chasing fundraising without the time to deliver excellent creativity?
Are you a manager in a non-profit or registered charity frustrated by the volatility in income and how it affects programming or staffing?
Have you known anyone made redundant to cut costs, due to lack of money?
Who is thinking about income sources? How do we support these thinkers?
Why can’t any theatre creative get involved in these questions?
When is taking corporate money “selling out”?
When is state funding an unhelpful dependency?
Have you ever wondered: will there ever be enough funding?
What models, partnerships and different approaches might work in the future?

The evening runs using Open Space technology which gives anyone the chance to propose a starting point for discussion, then take part in one of these conversations, flit between them all, or head to the bar.

Meet the Cast: Jellyfish by Ben Weatherill

Meet the cast of Jellyfish. It’s the story of a first kiss, chips by the beach and coming of age with Down’s Syndrome in a seaside town. “I know what people say. How they treat us. But that’s their problem. No one else should give a fuck.” Kelly likes dirty jokes and finding creatures washed up…

Meet the Writer: Kalungi Ssebandeke

We’re excited to announce the recipient of the Bush’s new Passing the Baton Commission for the main house as Kalungi Ssebandeke. Passing the Baton is a three-year programme to rediscover artists of colour who carved their way through British playwriting with distinction. In 2018 we introduce you to Leave Taking by Winsome Pinnock, a playwright on whose shoulders we stand.…

Bush Favourite Reads: Caribbean Diaspora

Ahead of our contemporary revival of Winsome Pinnock’s Leave Taking, I asked the Bush Theatre team for their favourite reads by the Caribbean diaspora and subsequent generations. Not limited by form, these personal reflections cover poetry, theatre, nonfiction and novels. We wanted to take stock in this 70th anniversary year of the arrival of the HMS…
