The Bush Theatre is dedicated to nurturing new writing at all levels, from emerging artists to established artists seeking to try something new.
We seek new plays which reflect the vibrancy of British culture now, with an originality of voice and a playful theatricality. We are proud to be a champion of playwrights with a keen interest in those voices not often heard and who reflect the contemporary culture of our city, the UK and beyond. We support and campaign for diversity in theatre leadership.
You can get a flavour of the work we’re currently developing and producing by heading over to BushGreen, an editorial space to inspire writers and audiences.
Throughout the year we offer a variety of ways for artists to make work with us. Read more about the ways you can get involved using the menu on the right.
We accept unsolicited script subscriptions once a year. We also receive scripts throughout the year via agents.
We support three companies or individual artists, whose practice is focused on new writing and new work, on attachment in the Studio.
Three BAMER creatives (a producer, director and playwright) are awarded a £10,000 bursary for the year and support from the theatre.
We develop relationships with six early career writers over the year to encourage work on a new full length play.
