“If I hadn’t come here this evening, when would I have met him?”

Rafi and Ami are about to meet their little sister’s boyfriend for the first time. Out of the blue, their mother arrives. Wura often shows up unannounced, and it’s never been a problem except this time, it is. Why doesn’t she know Brian exists?

For this close knit family, this secret has explosive consequences, one that forces the three sisters and their mother to face up to old hurts and unspoken tensions.

Hoard is the debut play by Bim Adewunmi, senior culture writer for BuzzFeed News and columnist with Guardian Weekend. She is a 2018 finalist at the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) Ellie Awards, and her work has appeared in Vogue, Mslexia, Red and Monocle, among several others. Bim turns her hand to the stage for her debut play.

Hoard is produced by Avalon Promotions and BBC Arts as part of the DEBUT playwriting initiative.

Ambreen Razia: ‘Show the West the pain they’ve caused…the colonial trauma inflicted on your ancestors’

Monday – ‘I hid his firearms’ she said through her chestnut eyes, her finger tips lightly touching one another, blonde highlights through her Pakistani hair, each strand telling me who she used to be. ‘This country’s failed me’, her words bouncing off her majesty’s walls, I sit opposite her with my name, she sits opposite…

the lonely creative. by Robyn London

I have spent my life immersed in creativity.  As a guide, passion or perhaps what others may interpret as an unrealistic dream.  It is embedded within my earliest memories. It has nurtured my soul. There is beauty in the moments of creativity that healed parts of me, that I didn’t realise were broken. Memories of…

Our doors are closed for now, but our work continues

Following the latest government advice about Coronavirus, the Bush Theatre building is now temporarily closed to the public. It is with enormous sadness that we closed our doors, but the safety and wellbeing of our audiences, company, and staff is of utmost importance. Although our theatre is closed, we are still committed to finding ways…
