The Bush Theatre proudly discovers and develops playwrights and produces new plays from our home in Shepherd’s Bush.

We seek new plays which reflect the vibrancy of British culture now, with an originality of voice and a playful theatricality.  We are proud to be a champion of playwrights with a keen interest in those voices not often heard and who reflect the contemporary culture of our city, the UK and beyond.

We receive over 2000 scripts a year from new and established playwrights all of which are read and considered for production or development here at the Bush.  We are a theatre for writers and are passionate about meaningful development. The Playwriting Department coordinates the reading and development of all new plays and offers opportunities throughout the year for artistic development, including readings and attachments to those writers we are keen to support.

Unsolicited submissions are received once a year, and form part of a larger search for new work that can be brought to full production here at the Bush, you can submit a play to us this way if you currently do not have an agent by clicking on Submissions below.

We also receive script submissions from agents directly throughout the year by email.
